The show Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has been cancelled by NBC according to sources close to the situation. There was talk of moving the series to NBC’s streaming platform, Peacock, but those fell through. Lionsgate Television, the company that co-produces the series, is talking to other outlets about a third season.
The show starred Jane Levy as Zoey Clarke, a coder living in San Francisco who starts hearing the thoughts of the people around her. Except it’s not their thoughts, it’s through popular music. The show also starred Alex Newell, Skylar Astin, John Clarence Stewart, Mary Steenburgen, Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas Grant, Kapil Talwalkar, Lauren Graham, and Harvey Guillen.
The show was one of the last in talks for cancellation or renewal at NBC. Other shows renewed at NBC include: The Blacklist, Chicago Fire, Kenan, Chicago PD, Law and Order: SVU, and Young Rock.
Let’s hope that the series can find another outlet to continue. It has a much larger digital following than live numbers. It’s won numerous awards as well, so it’s a bit puzzling why NBC wouldn’t renew Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.
