E3 2023 Canceled After Not Garnering ‘Sustained Interest’

The Entertainment Software Association announced today that this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), has been canceled.

The event was supposed to be held in Los Angeles from June 13th-16th and would have been the first in-person E3 event since 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic led to events in 2020, 2021, and 2022 being canceled or moved to online. According to an email to members of the ESA, they said that the 2023 version “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

E3 2023 was announced last year after the 2022 event was canceled as well. The news follows the majority of the big console makers in the industry backing out of the event, which is far from when E3 was THE place to be for gaming news. Xbox, Nintendo, PlayStation, and, most recently, Ubisoft announced that they wouldn’t have any presence at E3. The four companies instead opted to host their own events or digital showcases.

This is a developing story. We’ll keep you updated as we get news.
