DC Studios went on a string of announcements and news-worthy stories from their summit with the media over the weekend. They announced plenty of new animated shows coming, including DC Super Powers. The new show is more for a younger crowd, but still should be enjoyed by all ages. The new series focuses on new students Lightning, Flash, Plastic Man, Aquagirl, Green Lantern, and Terra at the Alliance School for Heroes. They level up their powers under the supervision of Principal Martian Manhunter, in the hopes of one day graduating and becoming the next generation of Earth’s defenders. Matt Beans is executive producing, and Michael Chang is a supervising producer.

The new series comes in with two other series, Starfire and My Adventures With Green Lantern as a new wave of animated shows for the DCU. As with all the other projects in the new universe, the voice actors here, could always reprise their roles in video games, movies, and other TV series.

What Do We Think About DC Super Powers?

The show and it’s logo are very reminiscent of the ’80s era of DC Comics with Super Powers. The comics, shows, and toys of this era were larger than life and popped off the page. If you remember back, Super Friends got an ’80s touch-up as well. If this show is anything like that, it’ll be a perfect way to get younger audiences into the DCU. Shows like Justice League and Justice League: Unlimited were perfect ways to get younger fans into the comics and the characters. Those shows are a large reason why the current generations love John Stewart as Green Lantern.

Making it set in a high school environment can only add to the relatability for those watching. After all, these superhero shows and movies are so popular because they bring super people down to a normal human level with emotion and experiences. We’ll have to see how it turns out when DC Super Powers comes out. There is no release date or casting available currently.
