Get ready for a road trip with your favorite Cars. The latest entry in the CCU (Cars Cinematic Universe) is a Disney+ series, Cars on the Road.

The Disney+ original series follows Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (voice of Larry the Cable Guy) as they head east from Radiator Springs on a cross-country road trip to meet up with Mater’s sister.

Check out the trailer below for a first look at the series.

Cars on the Road brings in the characters established in the 2006 Pixar animated feature Cars for a new adventure. The franchise’s success already yielded two sequel films, as well as spinoffs Planes and Planes: Fire and Rescue.

The series includes nine episodes, directed by Steve Purcell (Eps 1, 2, 8), Bobby Podesta (Eps 5, 6, 9), and Brian Fee (Eps 3, 4, 7). Composer Jake Monaco created the score for all nine episodes.

“The series is a romp across the country with Lightning McQueen and Mater,” said Purcell. “Like any real road trip, every day is a new mini-adventure with unexpected twists and turns.”

Cars on the Road will premiere exclusively on Disney+ September 8. It will be one of the programs kicking off Disney+ Day, which leads into this year’s D23 Expo.
