Hardly more than a week ago, we learned that Warner Bros. had greenlit Matt Reeves to make a trilogy that starts with The Batman. Now, the second and third films of the trilogy will reportedly feature a new version of the Joker, The Direct reported.
The Batman will showcase not one, not two, but three antagonists to the Dark Knight (Robert Pattinson). However, Colin Farrell has spoken as Penguin of not having “much to do.” But Riddler (Paul Dano) and Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) are a different story.
None of these villains, of course, are the Joker.
Noted leaker Daniel Richtman said that Reeves is seeking to make a totally new interpretation of the Clown Prince of Crime, who will be in the sequel to The Batman and the third installment of the trilogy.
Also, Richtman reported that the Clown Prince of Crime will be hinted at in the first film.
That reminds of Batman Begins teasing to the Joker (with a face card).
Casting for the character hasn’t started yet, Richtman said.
At least in past years, if it was up to fans, you’d see Bill Skarsgard, Johnny Depp or Macauley Culkin in the role.
Once I heard that Joaquin Phoenix was going to play The Joker – which came not long after we saw another Joker, as played by Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, on the big screen– I thought “that’s enough jokers for now.” But at the same time, upon hearing this report about another Joker, I didn’t think “we have too many now.”
The Batman is about the Caped Crusader early in his years as watchful guardian over Gotham City. Additionally, the film is supposed to portray the Dark Knight’s detective skills more than prior Batman films have.
The Batman is scheduled for release on Oct. 1, 2021.
