Dusty Hill, bassist for ZZ Top for more than 50 years, has died at the age of 72.

Hill’s bandmates Billy Gibbons and Frank Beard broke the news today on social media.

Their post reads, “We are saddened by the news today that our Compadre, Dusty Hill, has passed away in his sleep at home in Houston, TX. We, along with legions of ZZ Top fans around the world, will miss your steadfast presence, your good nature and enduring commitment to providing that monumental bottom to the ‘Top’. We will forever be connected to that “Blues Shuffle in C.” You will be missed greatly, amigo.”

Hill was one of the original founding members of ZZ Top, serving as lead bass player and secondary vocalist since the rock band’s debut in 1969. Since then, the band released 15 albums, with records going gold, platinum, and multi-platinum. Recognizable hits include “Sharp Dressed Man,” “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Got Me Under Pressure,” and more. ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.

The band was currently touring in the US, though Hill had actually bowed out of a few recent shows due to a hip injury as reported by TMZ. At this time, it’s unclear if that injury had anything to do with Hill’s passing.
