In a surprise move, but one that makes a bit of sense, director Destin Daniel Cretton is leaving Avengers: Kang Dynasty. According to Deadline, the director will still be involved with the MCU on Wonder Man and Shang-Chi 2. This is an amicable exit, but casts doubt on the future of Kang Dynasty. There have been conflicting reports in recent times as to whether or not the film is moving forward as currently presented. Avengers: Kang Dynasty has a tentative release date of May 1st, 2026.

Cretton is busy at work on the Marvel series Wonder Man, who he co-created with Andrew Guest. Cretton will serve as an Executive Producer and directs the first two episodes of the series. It’ll resume filming after Thanksgiving after taking a break for the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. Wonder Man is under the new banner at Marvel Studios called Marvel Spotlight. Echo is the first new show under that banner that promises more street-level and grounded stories.

Destin Daniel Cretton is also working on the sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We’ll have to see how this affects Kang Dynasty. With the rumors that Marvel is moving away from Kang the Conqueror as the big-bad of their upcoming slate, or at least moving away from Jonathan Majors as Kang, it’s up in the air.

As of right now, the only Marvel movie set for release in 2024 is Deadpool 3. There are series and other projects in the pipeline for 2024 though, so Marvel fans should still get a sufficient amount of content.

This is a developing story and we’ll keep you updated as we get more news.
