With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, Sony is looking at their options for their future film slate. Venom: Let There Be Carnage is now releasing October 15th. According to Deadline, The first film was a box-office smash for Sony, so they won’t be putting it directly to a streaming service.

The other film in flux is Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. That one could see a move to a streaming service, but it’s still a financial winner as a series for Sony. It moved off a Summer release in 2021 to the first weekend of October. The last thing Sony wants to do in an already weakened box office, is cannibalize their own movies.

The real test for the box office is this weekend’s release of Free Guy. If it tops the numbers that The Suicide Squad pulled this weekend, there could be better news for the box office.

Delays To These Movies, Mean More Delays For Bigger Films Down The Line

Remember that Spider-Man: No Way Home is a Sony film. That release would likely have to be moved if Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees another delay. Mobius would also have to move back. So this could start a domino effect for the entire slate of Spider-Man related films, in addition to other releases that Sony has. So we’ll have to see what the box office numbers look like.

The real thing to remember here is: get vaccinated. If you want to see movies release on time, mask up, get vaccinated, do your part. Vaccinations are proven to work, they’ll get us to see Spider-Man: No Way Home by the time it should release: December 17th, 2021.
