One of the many theories about Rey’s origin says that the heroine of the Star Wars sequel trilogy is a clone. Our own Ben Wolf even discussed the issue in detail some time ago. It seems that the latest Rise of Skywalker teaser may confirm that theory…. And also prove that Rey DID discover her origins in The Last Jedi. Check out the new footage for yourself, and we’ll discuss below:

The new Rise of Skywalker teaser ends ominously. First, there is the telltale rasp from Darth Vader’s mask. Then there’s an evil voice-over from Emperor Palpatine claiming someone’s (Rey’s? Kylo’s?) journey is at an end. Lastly, we’re shocked to see Rey, wearing a black cloak… and wielding a hinged, double-bladed, red lightsaber! The question remains, however, of whether that is, in fact, Rey we see in the Episode IX footage. I say it’s not.

Does the new Rise of Skywalker teaser prove Rey is a clone?

There have been other theories about Rey turning to the dark side and Kylo Ren returning to the light. I don’t buy it. Take a look at Rey in the Rise of Skywalker teaser footage below:

Something about her in this Rise of Skywalker teaser just seems… off. Her expression is frozen, and her features have a plastic quality to them. There even seems to be something wrong with the side of her face… It’s almost as if it’s not even her. If it’s not some kind of Force vision, my suspicion is that my colleague was right on the money. This could very well be a clone.

If that is the case, then perhaps there was much more to Rey’s revelation in the Cave of Truth. Remember, she approached the mirror looking to learn where she came from. Instead of getting a vision of her parents, she got a vision of herself, repeated to infinity. Could Rian Johnson have slipped some serious foreshadowing into that scene after all?

We’re now less than four months away to find of if the Rey in this new Rise of Skywalker teaser is in fact Rey, or a clone, or something else. What do you think? Let’s us know in the comments below.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker opens December 20.
