Star Wars fans are getting more and more excited as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge nears opening at Disneyland. Yesterday at Star Wars Celebration, the mind trust behind the theme park expansion sat for a Galaxy’s Edge panel to tell us all about fans’ upcoming opportunity to immerse themselves in the galaxy far, far away.

Among those on the Galaxy’s Edge panel were the creative executive for Walt Disney Imagineering, Scott Trowbridge, Asa Kalama (executive creative director), Matt Martin (creative executive, Lucasfilm Story Group), and the exceptional concept artist Doug Chiang (now creative director at Lucasfilm). The group spoke about what we can expect when Galaxy’s Edge opens.

First and foremost on the minds of many parents with children was the question of what food and drink will be available. Disney has teamed with Coca-Cola to supply all soft drinks for the park expansion. At the Galaxy’s Edge panel we got to see first product images, including Coke bottles and cans written Aurebesh, the written word of Star Wars.

A main goal for the park is to provide guests the most immersive Star Wars experience possible. To that end, you will hear none other than Yoda throughout the park (with Frank Oz reprising the voice role.) Everyone’s favorite cantina band from A New Hope is back as well. The band’s new song will be just part of an expansive musical library for your visit to Batuu. Likewise, we learned from the Galaxy’s Edge panel that RX3, the droid pilot from Star Tours, has a new job at Oga’s Cantina. Paul Reubens will again voice the droid as the cantina’s DJ, much to fans’ delight.

Perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the Galaxy’s Edge panel was new information about the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run ride. Run by an animatronic Honda Ohnaka, the ship starts off looking pristine. That will change depending on how guests operate the ride.

“It’s important to bring the ship back in good working order,” Kalama said. “Hondo’s a phenomenal boss, but he doesn’t take too kindly to those bringing his ship back in rough shape.”
