The Star Wars community and the world lost a legend in 2019 with Peter Mayhew’s passing. Through five decades, Mayhew brought one of the Star Wars franchise’s best and most beloved characters to life. From the first moment we saw him appear in the original 1977 film, fans were enamored with the “walking carpet” we know as Chewbacca. That’s a hefty legacy to follow. Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo has taken over the role admirably, however, but…. There’s another Wookiee on the rise, and Black Krrsantan has earned high praise from Mrs. Chewbacca herself, Angie Mayhew.

Angie Mayhew now heads the Peter Mayhew Foundation in honor of her late husband’s legacy. Yesterday the foundation tweeted out Mrs. Mahyew’s kind words to Wookiee newcomer Carey Jones, who portrays Black Krrsantan in The Book of Boba Fett:

Black Krrsantan, as many fans knew prior to his live-action debut, was a gladiator-turned-bounty-hunter in the Darth Vader and Doctor Aphra comics. Fans welcomed the new Wookiee arrival with open arms (pun intended, sorry), especially since they got to see him do what wookiees do best: ripping arms from sockets. As Angie Mayhew notes, even “Peter would have loved seeing a wookiee truly unleashed!” We likely haven’t seen the last of Krrsantan “unleashed,” either. At the end of The Book of Boba Fett Chapter 4, the black-haired behemoth joins Boba Fett’s ranks in the war against the Pykes. We wouldn’t be surprised to see him appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, either.

Angie Mayhew aptly summed up the gravity of Cary Jones’s role as Krrsantan succinctly, however. With seven short words, she reminds us just what a loss Peter Mayhew’s passing really was:

“You have some giant shoes to fill.”

He does indeed, Angie.
