The new vampire era is here, and I for one can’t wait. AMC just announced it will renew Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire for a second season.

The early renewal demonstrates that AMC has a lot of confidence in the supernatural drama; the season 2 green light arrives ahead of the show’s official premiere on October 2.

“The scope and breadth of this show, and what Mark [Johnson] and Rolin [Jones] have delivered, is just stupendous. They have rendered the rich and vibrant world of Anne Rice’s Interview in a wonderful way, and we’re incredibly proud.  From the set build, to production design, costumes and more — no detail was overlooked. This stellar cast deliver powerful performances that emotionally connect us to these characters and their humanity,” said Dan McDermott, president of AMC original programming, in a statement. “We look forward to sharing the final product of this extraordinary effort with audiences in just a few short days and are thrilled that this story will continue. This is only the beginning of an entire Universe featuring enthralling stories and characters that capture the spirit of Anne Rice’s amazing work.”

The AMC series adapts the first novel in Rice’s popular Vampire Chronicles series. The show follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Jacob Anderson), Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) and Claudia’s (Bailey Bass) story of love and immortality, as told to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian).

Season one takes place largely in 1900s New Orleans. The eight-episode second season will travel overseas to Europe.

And for an extra dose of vampire action, stay tuned for the official Interview with the Vampire Podcast, hosted by writer/comedian/vampire-enthusiast Naomi Ekperigin. Actors and writers from the series will join Ekperigin each week to discuss the show. The first preview episode is available today ahead of the series premiere.

We had the chance to dive into Interview with the Vampire early, and it’s excellent. Don’t miss the series premiere October 2!
