If you’ve played the multiplayer for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War at any point in the last week, it’s been all MP5, all the time. The gun is so omnipresent, that it was verging on ridiculous. You’d queue in, and everyone in the match would be using it. Close range? MP5. Mid-range? MP5. Long-range? MP5.
For now, it seems that Treyarch is doing exactly what Infinity Ward didn’t do with Modern Warfare. They’re being proactive.
#BlackOpsColdWar update: We've reduced the base effective damage range by 33% and adjusted the initial recoil for Submachine Gun Alpha.

Now get out there and try the other four! 👊
That’s it for the changes to the game for now. With Season One on the horizon, we’re likely to see bigger changes to the balancing of the game. But this is fantastic news because it means that Treyarch is actively paying attention to the player base. Now if only Activision would just get rid of Skill Based Matchmaking, then we would be golden.
Treyarch designer Tony Flame had this to say also.
The first post-launch balance update is live. We’re keeping this limited to the 1 gun we’ve gotten the most feedback on, as we continue working on the larger pass for Season 1. https://t.co/UC1heS3j6S

I’ve enjoyed my time with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s multiplayer pretty extensively. There are some issues, like party support, and some smaller issues. But this is shaping up to be one of the better Call of Duty experiences yet.
As for the other problem guns in the game, we might be seeing some adjustments to the burst-fire weapons like the AUG and the M16 down the line.
So, what do you think of the game? Are you having fun with it? What SMG are you going to try out now that the MP5 has gotten taken down a peg?
