The Entertainment Software Association announced earlier today that E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) has been canceled as an in-person event for 2022. Here’s what they had to say in their announcement.

Due to the ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees, E3 will not be held in person in 2022, We remain incredibly excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.

The show was online-only in 2021 and didn’t happen at all in 2020. This is surely disappointing news to people looking forward to the return of an in-person E3. However, that doesn’t mean that the event is going to be any less impactful on the future of video games and entertainment if it happens.

There’s no set date for the event, but if they have an online version of the event, it’ll likely take place sometime during the Summer. Hopefully they can hammer out some details regarding an online version. The announcement comes in the middle of another wave of cases in the United States for COVID-19. We saw a record number of cases in the US this past week.

We’ll keep you updated as this story develops.
